Pro Tools
Deliveries

Here's everything I need from a Pro Tools session, from start to finish. If anything's unclear, just ask. Please complete any editing, tuning, and comping prior to sending the files, and only send tracks destined for the final mix, not alternate takes.

Render
Instruments
and Amps

Amp Sims

Tone is one of the most personal choices an artist makes, so I always build the mix around the amp sound you've already recorded. No need to send a DI.

  • Render or commit your amp simulator plugin to audio
  • Delays and other time-based effects are fine to leave in
  • Please remove long reverbs, I'll add my own so they sit properly in the mix

Virtual Drums

Most virtual drum instruments let you export every mic completely separately, and that's exactly what I need to mix them like a real kit.

  • Export each mic on its own track, just like you'd get from recording a real kit
  • Include kick, snare, toms, overheads, and room mics, each as their own file

Virtual Instruments

If you're using any virtual instruments like keys or strings, please render those to audio as well.

Vocals

Vocals should be raw, with only tuning applied if needed.

Pro Tools
Session

Feel free to leave your levels, panning, and plugins exactly as you have them, I love hearing your vision for the song. Just a few things to help everything transfer smoothly:

  • If you've used elastic audio, ARA plugins, or Melodyne, please render or commit those to audio
  • Make sure tracks aren't frozen
  • To send a clean copy of your session: first highlight/select all the active tracks you're using, then go to File > Save Copy In and check Audio Files, Main Playlist Only, and Selected Tracks Only. While you're there, set the format to 48k/24bit minimum (if you're already there or above, perfect, if not, this is where you can bump it up). This builds a fresh session with just the tracks and takes you actually want me to hear, at the right specs.
  • Save Copy In won't grab your rough mix bounce on its own, so once it's done building the new folder, drop your rough mix into that same folder before zipping it up
  • Zip or rar the whole folder when you're done

Checklist

Before you send anything over, run through this list:

  • Render and commit amp sounds and vocal tuning
  • Separate tracks as much as possible, avoid combining
  • Include the rough mix
  • Zip or rar the whole session folder for each song
  • If you're sending more than one song, zip or rar each song separately and upload them one at a time
